Introduction
Cancer related pain can affect patients on several different levels. Because there are different forms of cancer, the pain can be experienced differently among patients. The rate at which cancer related pain is present varies on whether the patient was newly diagnosed, is undergoing cancer treatments, and/or if the patient has advanced cancer.
20% of newly diagnosed cancer patients experience pain.
30% of patients undergoing cancer treatments have complained of pain, and 90% of patients with advanced cancer have experienced pain.
The type of pain experienced can range from dull constant ache to a sharp, severe pain.
